12 December 2017

On Wednesday 13 December, Kinepolis' first 4DX theatres in Brussels and Antwerp will be open to the public. The first movie that visitors will be able to experience in 4DX is 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi', newest member of the Star Wars saga, which will be released on 13 December in Belgium. Later this month, Kinepolis will also open its 4DX theatre in Madrid, the very first 4DX theatre in Spain. The opening of Kinepolis' 4DX theatre in Lomme (France) is foreseen in January 2018.

4DX raises the cinema experience to a four-dimensional level: besides watching the movie, viewers are actually part of the action. Moving seats and surrounding effects such as wind, water, scent and light - perfectly synchronised with the on-screen action - provide an unprecedented immersive, 4D movie experience that stimulates all the senses.

Specially trained 4DX editors ensure that water, wind, light and fog effects, combined with realistic motion simulations, add a new dimension to the action on screen. 4DX cinema seats are equipped with an AC Servor Motor that enables precise movements and controls the speed of movement, in sync with what is occurring on screen. Experiencing Star Wars in 4DX feels like you're in the pilot seat of a spaceship and fighting 'the Dark Side' alongside your heroes.

Each year 4DX cooperates with major Hollywood studios for the release of various movies, from action, animation and horror to fantasy. A total of 105 films were released in 4DX in 2016, including 59 Hollywood blockbusters. 4DX is available for both 2D and 3D films.

Eddy Duquenne, CEO of Kinepolis Group, said: "Kinepolis has always been a leader in introducing innovative technology that intensifies the movie experience for visitors. Cinema is all about experiencing emotions together and 4DX will further increase this. It's an additional experience that part of our visitors will appreciate. As such, 4DX fits in perfectly with the ongoing diversification of our offering, allowing us to meet the demands of various target groups."
