All Kinepolis cinema complexes will soon be equipped with 4K DLP Barco projectors for digital cinema with the highest possible image resolution.
Kinepolis will soon be the first European cinema group to install Barco 4K projectors in each of its Belgian, French and Spanish cinemas.
This represents a new milestone in the digitisation process at Kinepolis, while at the same time setting an innovative trend for the digital evolution of the European cinema market. Belgium will be the first to be equipped with 4K Barco projectors. The other Kinepolis countries will follow. Kinepolis has been thoroughly preparing the technological conversion to 4K projectors during the past year.
Kinepolis will soon be offering digital cinema in the highest possible image resolution, more specifically, 4 times higher than the current 2K resolution. 2K and 4K refer to the image resolution, 2K being a resolution of 2048x1080, and 4K a resolution of 4096×2160.
4K images have a higher level of detail, more clarity, and a more intense range of colours, which leads to an even more intense movie experience, particularly for those who have a technical eye for images. In addition, the 4K resolution offers additional opportunities for event transmissions and business-to-business applications in the cinema.
Kinepolis is a pioneer in conceptual and cinematographic innovation at a truly global level. As early as 1999, the group was experimenting with digital technology, and purchased two digital projector prototypes in the year 2000. Three years later, Kinepolis installed 10 digital 2K projectors in Belgium alone. Kinepolis continued to develop the digitisation process, and launched 3D digital cinema in 2007. In Belgium, the proportion of digitised cinemas is currently 86 %, in France it is 86 % and in Spain it is 64 %.
