Since the opening in 1988 as the biggest and most modern movie theatre in the world at the time (24 theatres, 6827 seats), Kinepolis has earned a considerable reputation in the cinema sector and is still an innovation pioneer in terms of image, sound and concept. These days, the muliplex in Brussels welcomes 1.5 million visitors a year and employs 90 people (40 permanent staff and about 50 students), more than half of which live in Brussels.
Because Kinepolis wanted to keep the site on the Heysel, participation in the NEO project presented a unique innovation opportunity. It is already clear that the cinema will again be a leading and innovative complex, as was Kinepolis Brussels when it was built as the very first megaplex in 1988. Continuous investments (including a thorough renovation in 2009) have guaranteed that after 26 years, the complex still offers the best movie accommodation, "the ultimate cinema experience", to its customers.
Kinepolis is very enthusiastic about the partnership with the Unibail/CFE/Besix consortium and wishes the group the best of luck with the Neo project. It will breathe new life into the Heysel plain in an impressive way. As an anchor point in the leisure zone, Kinepolis hopes to contribute to the success of this prestigious project at one of the top locations in Brussels, at the foot of the Atomium. it will guarantee Kinepolis's future on the Heysel after 2025 (end date of the current concession agreement) and means the many moviegoers in Brussels and its outskirts will be able to enjoy an extensive movie offer in the very best circumstances for a long time to come.
Kinepolis does not want its loyal visitors to miss out and guarantees that the cinema will remain open during the completion of the project. Only after the opening of the new cinema will the existing, legendary building close its doors.
Kinepolis is guiding its showpiece into a new future!
