Kinepolis expands in Spain with acquisition in Almería and agreement to operate new cinema to be built in Madrid

19 September 2024, 7:00 a.m. CET

From October 1, 2024, Kinepolis will operate a cinema in the commercial centre Mediterráneo, in the city centre of Almería. This cinema, currently called ‘Cine Monumental’, has 10 screens and 2,608 seats. It concerns a rented cinema, without acquisition of the cinema property.

After this acquisition, Kinepolis will operate a total of 11 cinemas in Spain, including four cinemas in the province of Andalucía. Indeed, besides Almería, the Group also has two cinemas in Granada and one in Málaga.

In addition, Kinepolis also signed an agreement for a brand new, rented cinema of up to 12 screens in Madrid, in a commercial centre yet to be built right next to the airport. This centre will be the largest outdoor commercial centre in Spain, located in the Valdebebas neighbourhood, which is in full residential development.

Eddy Duquenne, CEO of Kinepolis Group: “We are delighted to expand our Group again soon, with two cinemas that fit perfectly into our portfolio and our expansion strategy. We entered the Spanish market in 1998 with the opening of the then largest cinema in the world, Kinepolis Ciudad de la Imagen in Madrid, and since then have continued to invest in the introduction of numerous cinema technologies and concepts that take the cinema experience to the next level. We look forward to doing this in more cinemas, offering movie lovers the ultimate movie experience.”
