Kinepolis Belgium: After Opera in the Cinema, now there's Theatre in the Cinema

On Thursday, 25 June a very special series of performances will be starting at Kinepolis. This is when theatre-lovers will be able to immerse themselves at Belgian cinemas in the atmosphere of a number of well-known plays featuring world-famous actors, broadcast directly from the National Theatre in London, one of the most impressive theatres in Great Britain. The first play in the series will be Phèdre.

This follows on from the success of Opera in the Cinema, which drew the opera-lovers of Belgium and France in huge numbers. The last opera performance of this second season, La Cenerentola (Rossini), is to take place on Saturday, 9 May at 6.30 pm. Advance sales are steaming ahead, but those who are quick enough will still be able to obtain tickets. The new season of Opera in de Cinema starting in October will include some captivating performances, but in the meantime we can already look forward to the next unique experience.

From Thursday, 25 June, as part of NT Live, the live theatre programme of the London National Theatre, an outstanding series of plays, is to be broadcast live by satellite in High Definition to a number of Kinepolis cinemas in Belgium. Belgian audiences will be put in the right mood by short preview, before becoming absorbed in the play itself.

No less than Helen Mirren, who recently won an Oscar for her leading role in The Queen, is to start the series off with Phèdre (25/06/09 at 7.30pm) by Jean Racine, adapted by Ted Hughes. The play is directed by Nicholas Hytner. The full theatre programme will be announced shortly on the Kinepolis website. Tickets for Theatre in the Cinema, price EUR 15, are already on sale via www.kinepolis.com or at any of the participating cinemas: Kinepolis Brussels, Kinepolis Ghent, Kinepolis Ostend, Kinepolis Imagibraine and Antwerp.
