Kinepolis Group has obtained all necessary permits for the construction and operation of a new cinema complex in Armilla, located in the Southwest of Granada (Spain). The cinema will be part of the shopping mall 'Nevada', one of the biggest shopping malls in Andalusia, which is announced to open in November of this year. The cinema will have 8 screens and 1693 seats and is expected to open before the end of 2016. Kinepolis aims to attract nearly 400.000 visitors a year to its Nevada complex.
The owner of the Nevada shopping mall, General de Galerías Comerciales (GGC) rents out a 6,000 m2 windproof building to Kinepolis. Kinepolis will take care of the furnishing and finishing of the cinema in the coming months.
Kinepolis already has a 15-screen, 4600-seat cinema complex in Granada. This brand-new, second complex will allow Kinepolis to reinforce its position in the area and to offer Kinepolis' unique cinema experience to an even wider audience. Kinepolis entered the Spanish market in 1998, with the opening of Kinepolis Madrid, the world's biggest multiplex (25 screens) at the time. The first Kinepolis multiplex in Granada was opened in 2004.
Eddy Duquenne, CEO Kinepolis Group: "Consumer confidence in Spain is clearly recovering. We are confident that the city of Granada offers enough opportunity for several multiplexes, especially within the context of the Nevada project, which will broaden the catchment area of this new cinema significantly."
In 2014, Kinepolis took over the cinemas Abaco Alcobendas in Madrid and Abaco Cinebox in Alicante. Both cinemas have been thoroughly renovated and operate under the Kinepolis brand since. With this brand-new second multiplex in Granada, Kinepolis will have six cinema complexes in Spain by the end of this year.
